(That would not hurt your IT department’s feelings if you knew)
Many people feel like the world of IT is this magical realm full of goblins, gremlins, warriors, and wizards. Your IT staff daily fighting off level 19 Balors to keep your files safe, computers running, and direct feeds to Facebook and Instagram intact. Honestly, there are some days I might even feel like that, but there is a deep dark truth to the mysticism of Technology Support lurking behind the curtain… We are just like you but with slightly modified skill point selections. But no worries below I have listed a few tech tips to help you the next time you are confronted with your own technology monsters!
Rebooting the device really does work.
We are not just saying that to get you off the phone. We Tech Experts do it all the time because it works and you don’t even have to pick up the phone!
The term “CPU” and “computer” mean different things.
The CPU is the little chip inside your computer that acts as the brain. The computer is the whole unit; memory, hard drives, case, and everything else.
The desktop of your computer is the worst place to store files.
Most places of employment don’t even back up that location and when you store many things there it is honestly harder to find them. Try your documents folder or even better OneDrive or another cloud-based service. Try pretending it is a physical old school filing cabinet, use folders, make subfolders.
Reply and Reply All have different uses.
If only a few people need to hear what you have to say it is best to use Reply and add any extra people. If everyone needs to know, Reply All is your friend.
We just type your problem into Google.
When you have a computer issue that we have not heard or seen before, we just type it into Google to see who else has had the issue and how they fixed it. Now that being said, with our IT skillset and experience we typically have a good understanding of what the fix entails and how to best deploy to our user base.
The exact error messages help us out tremendously.
This one goes back to Google. The better we type in your error the faster we can find the solution.
