#MakeTechHerStory

Taking a little side track this week to post something I feel is important in the world of Information Technology, women’s representation in the industry.

Women were the early pioneers of what we now know as the Information Technology era, but now hold less than a 34% stake of technology occupations. HR professional across the country report having difficulty filling IT job openings in their organizations and U.S. employers are projected to create 600,000 new core IT jobs by 2024.

There is a demand and I believe if properly nurtured and motivated there is a mostly untapped supply of an amazing and intelligent workforce out there.

Here are some links to people and organizations I feel are really trying to make a difference:

CompTIA: http://maketechherstory.comptia.org/
CompTIA commissioned research to study the not so simple subject. I recommend downloading their findings.

The Girl Scouts: http://blog.girlscouts.org/2017/07/why-girl-scouts-why-now.html
GSUSA introduced 23 new badges in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and the outdoors. One of those badges is in cybersecurity! How awesome is that?

The Tech Women Network: http://www.techwomennetwork.com/
A platform that allows tech-savvy women to showcase their skills, find resources, and connect to each other. Created by a woman named Jumoke Dada. Check out her twitter feed as well @jumokedada

Women In Technology: http://www.womenintechnology.org/
Women in Technology (WIT) has the sole aim of advancing women in technology — from the classroom to the boardroom.
